5 things I’ve learnt from Karen Walker

In this day and age, you might think that positive female role-models are hard to find. However – I just think that people have not been looking in the right places.

For instance, Karen Walker, the mouse-voiced diva from Will and Grace. On the surface she may seem like a self-obsessed, rude, alcoholic of a woman…. (Which she is!) but under that cheeky exterior lies a vodka bottle full of life lessons and fabulosity!

Without further ado – The 5 things that I’ve learnt from Karen Walker.

1. Never dwell on the past.

What if I did that? What if I did this? Would I have become that? Would I have been this? I constantly get told that it’s never too late to do what you want to do and I think it’s about time I start listening. (- and you should too!)

2. Always be honest.

I’d rather hear that you don’t like me, than have to endure a “fake smile” every time I bump into you. I’d be better off with no friends, than fake friends – thank you very much.

3. Never allow people to treat you like crap.

Never ever lower your standards. As Eleanor Roosevelt once said “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” Don’t be cocky, but never succumb to being pushed around.

4. Never be afraid to ask questions.

There really is no such thing as a stupid question. I’d rather ask a bunch of questions now, than look stupid after I’ve failed at my task. So ask away, honey! How else will you learn?

5. Point out your positive attributes and make people God-damn sorry they ever doubted you.

Everybody has vices and virtues. Find your good points (Yes, you have some – no matter how much you deny it.) and be proud of them! Loads of people out there wish they had what you have, so don’t put it to waste. Feel fabulous about yourself everyday, no matter what crap gets flung your way.

Occasionally you may find yourself feeling blue and a little down, and that’s ok. On those days you can definitely get yourself a margarita and wallow in your misery. Let’s keep those days few and far between though, ok? Love and light to you all!
